Henry Herbert Blish was educated at Dubique, Iowa. At the age of fifteen he entered the book store of Grosvenor & Harger, then the largest store of its kind in Dubuque. A few years later he formed a partnership with the junior member of the firm, under the name Harger & Blish, which has been very successful. He has the reputation of being one of Dubuque's best businessmen, and is both energetic and affable.
The firm of Harger & Blish was formed at Dubuque, Iowa in 1888 and when in 1910 a branch was opened in Des Moines, Iowa, Henry Herbert Blish went there to assume personal charge. The company was the distributor for several well known makes of phonographs and radios, including the Edison. From that association there developed a personal friendship between Mr. Blish and Thomas A. Edison.
Henry Herbert Blish was prominent in many civic activities, a charter member of the Des Moines Rotary Club, a vestryman of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and an active Mason. At the time of his death an editorial in the Des Moines paper said in part, "one of the conspicious traits of his business life was the faculty of winning and retaining the loyalty of large numbers of business associates. His unfailing tact, courtesy and kindliness will not soon be forgotton."
