From the JKB 1905 Volume:David Blish's early life was spent on the farm and in school. He finished his education in the high school at Buchanan, Michigan. After his marriage he continued at farming, until the fall of 1881, and in the following spring moved to Dowegiac and engaged in the hardware business, in which he remained ten years. In the spring of 1893 he returned to the old homestead, which had been deeded to him, with the request that it should remain in the family name. Five years later he removed near Dowegiac to secure greater school privileges for his children. His oldest daughter, Iva, went from the high school at Dowegiac to the College at Benton Harbor, Michigan, and from there to the Art Institute in Chicago. From the MRB 1957 volume:David Blish was a man of good habits, always ready to help a neighbor in time of need, and a kindly father. He spent his last years in farming near Dowegiac, Michigan and died there February 9th, 1907, from heart disease.Sarah (Whitbeck) Blish has been a cripple for many years.
